Shipping protection is a line item on the order. Someone has to fulfill it in Shopify — either you do it by hand, or Shipcheck does it for you. Under Settings → Automations, Protection product fulfillment controls that timing.
Automatic options need an active paid subscription. On the free plan only Manual is available; upgrade from the banner on the page if you want auto fulfillment.
Open fulfillment settings
- Open the Shipcheck app in Shopify Admin.
- Go to Settings.
- Under General, open Automations.
- Find Protection product fulfillment.
- Choose a behaviour, then save.
Auto fulfillment options
Pick the option that matches when you want the protection line closed out relative to the rest of the order.
Immediately after purchase
Shipcheck fulfills the protection line as soon as protection is on the order — right after checkout (or after thank-you protection is paid, when that applies).
Use this when protection is a digital line item you do not need to ship, and you want it closed out immediately so the order is not left partially unfulfilled for protection alone.
When all other items are fulfilled
Shipcheck waits until every non-protection line on the order is fulfilled. When only the protection line is left unfulfilled, it fulfills protection.
Use this when you want protection to follow the rest of the order — for example after your warehouse has shipped (or otherwise completed) everything else. Partial fulfillments of merchandise do not trigger protection until those other lines are fully done.
When all physical items are fulfilled
Shipcheck waits until every line that requires shipping is fulfilled. Digital or other non-shipping lines (aside from protection) can still be open. When all physical merchandise is fulfilled and protection is still unfulfilled, Shipcheck fulfills protection.
Use this when the order mixes physical products with digital extras, and you only care that the shippable goods are done before closing out protection.
Manual
Shipcheck never fulfills the protection line. You fulfill it yourself in Shopify Admin whenever you are ready.
Use this if you want full control, or while you are still on the free plan. This is the default.
Release order hold for fulfillment
When you use any automatic option (not Manual), you can also turn on Release order hold for fulfillment.
When this is on, Shipcheck can remove an order hold on the fulfillment order when needed, then fulfill the protection line. When it is off, Shipcheck skips fulfillment orders that are on hold, except in cases where only protection is left unfulfilled on that fulfillment order.
Turn this on if your workflow places holds that would otherwise block auto fulfillment of protection. Leave it off if you want holds to stay until you release them yourself.
